Position Summary
Under the general direction of the New Student Orientation Coordinator the Office Coordinator provides administrative support for all freshman transfer parent overnight online and mini orientation programs serving over 10 000 new students and parents with an annual budget over $900000.
This position requires knowledge of university programs for students and the ability to maintain and develop effective working relationships with a wide range of campus staff students and the general public. This position requires advanced skills which include: training and supervision of student assistants timekeeping and payroll for student assistants procurement travel database management customer relations prioritizing office workload and systems support. The position requires an individual who is self-motivated well organized and displays good judgment.

Department Information
New Student Orientation at Sacramento State assists new students transition to campus by providing programs and services that outline the University’s academic requirements as well as social and developmental opportunities. This includes academic advising and course registration. Orientation is required for all incoming students.

Minimum Qualifications
Entry to this classification requires a fully functional knowledge of and skill in standard office procedures and practices as well as an ability to understand and operate in a variety of organizational structures. Additionally incumbents are expected to have a thorough knowledge of English grammar spelling and punctuation and be able to clearly communicate orally and in writing. Some positions may require a knowledge of business mathematics beyond basic arithmetic. The ability to use and quickly learn new office support technology systems and software packages is also a prerequisite.
These qualifications would normally be obtained through a high school program technical/vocational program or their equivalents combined with several years of related office work experience.
Required Qualifications
- Comprehensive detailed knowledge of University policies and procedures related to mandatory orientation for all first-year and transfer students.
- Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Outlook Word Excel PowerPoint as well as CMS HR/SA and Financials modules.
- Ability to independently handle multiple priorities and projects related to Orientation.
- Ability to independently interpret and apply policies and procedures using appropriate judgement and discretion to act where precedents do not exist.
- Ability to troubleshoot most office administration problems and respond to questions and requests related to Orientation.
- Ability to anticipate office problems and solutions and their effects on other areas.
- Ability to analyze operational and procedural problems and develop recommend and evaluate proposed solutions.
- Ability to perform business math analyze budgetary data and make accurate projections requiring some inference.
- Ability to effectively handle interpersonal interactions at all levels and handle highly sensitive interpersonal situations.
- Ability to use negotiation and persuasion skills to achieve results.
- Ability to direct and supervise student assistants.
