Job Summary

Manages the day-to-day operations of a team of Return to Work (RTW) specialists. Protects the company assets by securing the most cost-effective claim administration methods ensuring regulatory compliance auditing vendor performance and coordinating with internal and external customers to contain costs. Consults internal and external customers on Workers’ Compensation (WC) and Return to Work (RTW) matters.

Essential Functions

  • Management responsibilities include but are not limited to: hiring terminations coaching skills development recognition and rewards performance management and staff productivity
  • Plans organizes staffs directs and controls the day-to-day operations of the department; develops and implements procedures and programs as necessary
  • Develops and manages the department budget; ensures compliance and addresses variances and other budget concerns
  • Manages team performance using audits and data analysis
  • Keeps updated on jurisdictional nuances impacting area of oversight
  • Manages State Regulatory Compliance issues involving WC
  • Consults internal and external customers regarding WC claims procedures training and communications
  • Manages RTW process in conjunction with the WC program utilizing knowledge of concepts practices policies and procedures related to multi-state WC laws and regulations WC claim handling “Best Practices” cost containment strategies and vendor reporting and claim management systems
  • Maintains effective processes and controls related to the RTW function
  • Coordinates leave process with Human Resource partners

Minimum Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Risk Management Human Resources or related business area required. In lieu of the minimum education and experience requirements a high school diploma and nine (9) years of experience in Worker’s Compensation Human Resources or related field will be accepted.

Minimum Experience

  • Five (5) years of experience in WC claims handling claims and or working with RTW initiatives required.

Required Skills Abilities and / or Licensure

  • Software skills including use of Microsoft Office software and web-based applications
  • Verbal and written communication skills necessary to communicate with all levels of management
  • Time management organizational and multi-tasking skills necessary to work in a fast-paced environment handling various tasks and changing priorities while maintaining a high attention to detail and accuracy to achieve goals
  • Ability to analyze review and make recommendations
  • Ability to inspire a shared vision and empower and motivate a team
