We are caching infrastructure professionals who employ best-practices to develop scalable caching solutions. We’re responsible for the development and operational efficiency of Disney’s owned and operated Origin Midtier and Edge appliances which serve content for Disney+ Hulu ESPN+ and Star+.

As a Lead Software Engineer you will:

  • Lead a significant part of the architecture and implementation of data plane and configuration software for the Disney Origin Midtier and Edge appliance ecosystem.

  • Work as a technical lead to architect next generation caching technologies

  • Employ the Software Development Lifecycle to gather requirements gain consensus on design create robust implementations and validate through automated testing.

  • Create and manage mechanisms to collect metrics and synthesize meaningful insights with that data.

  • Apply principled engineering practices including documentation unit testing integration testing continuous integration and by your example lead others in your team to do likewise.

  • Participate in peer reviews of code and design documentation both as author and reviewer.

  • Mentor others in your team and across the organization.

  • Act with an openness to learning and continual self-improvement.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent work experience

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in systems programming experience in C or C++ software architecture and development experience.

  • Expert level knowledge of scaling HTTP caching and networking protocols

  • Demonstrated ability to lead development teams through complex engineering challenges.

  • Proficient writing code against Linux I/O and Storage subsystems

  • A strong foundation in system design

  • Proven experience building highly performant stable systems

  • A fondness for unit tests and automated testing in multiple forms

  • Knowledge pertaining to the logging and manipulation of monitoring / metrics


  • Prior experience with Varnish Cache and VCL

  • Python experience useful

  • Solid troubleshooting and debugging skills

  • Knowledge of video streaming / HLS / DASH

  • Familiarity with storage technologies – SSD NVME DC-PDIMM

Location: New York NY San Francisco CA or Seattle WA preferred but also open to US remote for the right candidate. #DisneyTech

The pay range for this position in Colorado is $129150 to $173250 per year however base pay offered may vary depending on geographic region internal equity job-related knowledge skills and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package in addition to a full range of medical financial and/or other benefits dependent on the level and position offered.
