The University of Pittsburgh is seeking experienced interviewers for funded sponsored research projects to make cold calls for our survey center. Ideal candidates will have availability between 10am to 5pm EST Monday to Friday and between 11am to 6pm EST Saturday or Sunday. Total work hours will range from 15 to 37.5 hours per week. Currently all work is being done off campus and remotely from home. A personal computer that is NOT a Chromebook and a reliable internet connection are required. Responsibilities include: initiate and code phone calls in our Survey Unit and complete interviews following prescribed scientific protocol. Attend and participate in all training provided by the Survey Unit; maintain the confidentiality of records and data collected; meeting quality assurance measures established for the Survey Unit interviewing staff; interact in a professional manner when dealing with the public with co-workers and with supervisors; be willing to assist other Survey Unit related activities as assigned.

The ideal candidate will be willing to work 15 to 37.5 hours a week. A personal computer that is NOT a Chromebook and a reliable internet connection are required. Use of wireless personal headsets are prohibited. Ideal candidates will have access to a quiet space to work in free from any audible background noise. Ideal candidates will feel comfortable discussing sensitive health topics/conditions and have strong social and interpersonal skills. Experience with conducting telephone interviews or in-person interviews is preferred. Ideal candidates will have proficient computer literacy skills the ability to follow detailed instructions an excellent telephone demeanor an ability to work well with the public and a high degree of self-motivation. Research experience is preferred.

Essential Functions

  • Navigate quickly through the survey questions and answer selections to maintain a smooth cadence for the respondent.

  • Maintain a stationary position while conducting interviews.

  • Navigate quickly between multiple computer software programs and resource documents.

  • Ability to dictate survey scripts verbatim in a clear voice. Reviews attempt messages and recognizes important notes before initiating each call.

  • Maintain professional communication with fellow interviewers and supervisory staff at all times.

  • Effectively communicate throughout shift with numerous respondents from various backgrounds.

  • Ability to manage difficult respondents in a professional manner.

  • Leaves attempt messages after call is made with essential notes for next interviewer’s call.

  • Immediately respond to interviewees questions concerns or rebuttals with correct pre-scripted and semi-improvised responses.

  • Able to identify when given answers need to be clarified to fit our selection parameters.

  • Maintain a dialing pace of at least 30 dials per hour in addition to conducting interviews with respondents.

  • Must understand and use established calling protocols per training.

  • Reliably arrive on time and work for the duration of working shifts.
