Job Responsibilities : Conservation Lands Technician

Salary : $56,352–$65,328 a year

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Conservation Lands Technician reports to the Conservation Lands Supervisor and is part of the team responsible for ongoing maintenance of Conservation Lands. The position involves groundskeeping equipment operation and maintenance projects including habitat restoration natural heritage and stewardship activities and fulfilling the objectives of the property management plans.

KEY DUTIES:
1. Provide high-quality service to meet LTC municipal partner and public expectations.

2. Provide the day-to-day maintenance and operation of the Conservation Lands and facilities including property groundskeeping and repairs to infrastructure.

3. Be responsible for minor repair and regular maintenance of LTC field equipment including the records of service for each piece of equipment.

4. Conduct regular inspections of LTC buildings and vehicles and undertake minor repairs and regular maintenance as required.

5. Acquire estimates and quotes from contractors assist in the preparation of project costs and carryout project implementation for various Conservation Lands related projects.

6. Support habitat management projects including maintenance restoration monitoring the removal of invasive species and forest management.

7. Conduct maintenance of trails and facilities including painting fencing grading shoveling garbage collection and repairs.

8. Write proposals and reports on land management and stewardship activities.

9. Assist with delivery of watershed services including but not limited to:
a) Providing general information and assistance to the public regarding LTC;
b) Assisting technical staff with the operation and maintenance of flood control structures and flood emergency plans;
c) Packaging distribution and delivery of tree seedlings to the public; and
d) Participating in education and outreach activities.

10. Assist in hiring and supervising contract student and special employment program staff and ensure accurate work sheets are completed and submitted.

11. Maintain familiarity with and assist with the implementation of health and safety policy procedures and legislation under all conditions for all operations.

12. Adhere with all LTC policies and procedures.

13. Undertake other related duties as required and as assigned by the Conservation Lands Supervisor or CAO.

QUALIFICATIONS:
– Successful completion of a post-secondary education in park management outdoor recreation ecotourism or demonstrated comparable field.
– Minimum three years’ experience working with/on conservation lands parks and/or outdoor recreation facilities.
– Valid driver’s license within the Province of Ontario and held in good standing.
– Excellent organizational skills to set priorities monitor progress and assist in problem solving.
– Excellent customer service skills including conflict management and resolution.
– Strong computer skills required (Microsoft Excel Outlook and Word) and file management.
– Physically fit and some heavy lifting (~22 kg) required.
– Experience operating tractors all-terrain vehicles and carpentry-related power tools preferred.
– Experience with mechanical maintenance and repair (e.g. small engines) preferred.
– Experience with groundskeeping equipment required.
– Ontario Drinking Water Sampling certification considered an asset.
– Managed Forest experience considered an asset.
– Ontario Pesticide License considered an asset.
– Fall Arrest Certification considered an asset.
– Chainsaw certification considered an asset.
– Experience with welding considered an asset.
– Experience with silviculture habitat restoration management and monitoring considered an asset.
– Ability to work outside regular business hours as required.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
– Permanent Full-time Position
– 40 hours/week
– 2022 Annual Salary Range $56352 – $65328
